Convergence of activities of Tourism and Culture Ministries

In a move towards better coordination between Tourism and Culture departments, areas of convergence are being identified for both the Ministries.
Organising festivals and road shows abroad, projects related to archaeological monuments and heritage sites and other campaigns are being identified as possible areas of convergence for both the ministries.
"Minimum government and maximum governance" was promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election campaign. Convergence of ministries with common goal like tourism and culture is considered to be in this direction.
In a meeting chaired by Tourism and Culture Minister Shripad Yesso Naik, the senior officials of both the ministries today discussed the possible areas of convergence.
Addressing the meeting, Naik said, coordination issues in existing projects should be sorted out and both ministries should take up new projects in which they can converge.
He specifically mentioned the areas of possible convergence in organising 'Festival of India' and road shows, projects related to archaeological monuments and heritage sites, "Clean India" campaign and publicity and image building "Brand India" campaign.

It was decided in the meeting that Culture Ministry will ink MoUs with Tourism Ministry and various state governments for improvement of visitor amenities at monuments and heritage sites.
As a step towards converegence, while publicity for 'Festival India' abroad will be ensured by Tourism Ministry, tour operators will be allowed to set up counters at festival venues.
Both Ministries will collaborate for food festivals and coordinate with Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR).
Common calendar for road shows and Festival of India to promote Indian destinations will also be developed.
Rates for film shooting will be reviewed by Ministry of Culture from time to time in consultation with Ministry of Tourism.
It was also decided that signages in various monuments will be prepared by Archaeological Survey of India, after consultation with Ministry of Tourism.
