"The deserted (exhausted) mining pits should be converted into hospitality or environmental projects (and) then we will be able to balance the environment," he told reporters here.
The Chief Minister planted a tree as part of the plantation drive undertaken by the state's Forest Department.
He said his government has taken all required precautions to ensure environment is not damaged after resumption of the mining activity (in the state).
Referring to his recent visit to Sesa Iron Ore's rehabilitated mining pit at Sanquelim village, Parsekar said other mine owners should learn from the rehabilitation executed by the company.
"Goa has a rich ecological biodiversity and we should maintain it," he said.
