Cook arrested for killing man at Selja's bungalow
Press Trust of India New Delhi The 42-year-old man who was found dead at former Union minister and Congress leader Kumari Selja's Lutyens' zone bungalow was allegedly killed by a cook who purportedly had an illicit relationship with the deceased's wife working as a maid in the house.
The accused, identified as Anil (28), a resident of Madhubani, Bihar who worked as a cook and also performed some office-related jobs, has been arrested by the police.
The deceased identified as Sanjay, was the husband of Manju who worked as domestic help at Selja's residence. He himself was employed at the Sena Bhavan. He was found dead yesterday inside the compound of Selja's 7, Motilal Nehru Marg residence following which police got a PCR call about 8 PM.
"On Sunday night, Sanjay had returned to the bungalow after dropping his wife and two children at his brother-in-law's place in Laxmi Bai Nagar for Raksha Bandhan. He was miffed over the 'good' relations between his wife and Anil of late. An argument broke out between Sanjay and Anil over this issue and they had a scuffle," said Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) M K Meena.
During the fight, which began at Sanjay's one-room staff quarter, Anil thrashed Sanjay. In a bid to save himself, Sanjay climbed atop the main building through stairs.
"Anil followed him and they again exchanged blows on the terrace during which Anil pushed Sanjay off the roof with an intention to kill him. The fall caused Sanjay a fatal head injury and he bled to death," said Meena.
Police sources said that during questioning, both Anil and Manju had accepted that they were in an illicit relationship. It has also emerged that after the entire incident, Anil had made a call to Manju.
