Special CBI Judge Ravinder Kaur acquitted dismissed Constable Sunil Kumar saying the CBI had failed to prove its case against him.
"The CBI has miserably failed to prove its case against the accused. The quality of evidence produced by the CBI is weak in nature and not sufficient to invoke statutory presumption under section 20 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The special court's gave its judgement in a case lodged by the CBI on Bihar native Abu Bakkar's complaint that he and his family members were picked up forcibly from their residence in Gurgaon in October 2006 by two or three policemen in plain clothes.
They said they were brought to the Vasant Kunj police station in South West Delhi and were thrashed in the lock-up with the cops alleging that they were indulging in theft and dealing in stolen articles.
The CBI said Abu and his kin were released by police next day but Sunil began demanding Rs 10,000 from Abu, threatening that if his demands were not met, they would be picked up again and implicated in a criminal case. (More)
