A policeman and his associate were arrested for allegedly demanding and taking bribe from a truck owner, the police said today.
The truck owner approached the Vigilance Branch of Delhi Police with a complaint that sub-inspector Amit Kumar posted at Punjabi Bagh police station in west district had taken a bribe of Rs 2.80 lakh from him and was demanding more, the police said.
The policeman was demanding Rs 2.20 lakh more from him for not taking action against him on a verbal complaint of a transporter regarding theft of his goods in transit.
On this information, a raiding team was immediately constituted by the Vigilance Branch. On May 23, the complainant brought an installment of Rs 50,000 for payment to the policeman.
At that time, the complainant received a phone call from the office of transporter Shekar Kumar that SI Amit Kumar would meet him in Phool Bagh, the police said.
Shekar Kumar played the role of mediator and facilitated payment of the bribe.
As soon as the policeman received the bribe money, the raiding team nabbed him and the transporter, they added.
