Three people, including a police officer, were arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a jeweller here in Maharashtra, a senior Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said Thursday.
Assistant police inspector Sunil Wagh (34) had through another person, identified as Mahesh Patil (36), allegedly made a demand of Rs 10 lakh from the jeweller to save him from action in a criminal case, Thane ACB's inspector Seema Adnaik said.
The jeweller lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap Wednesday evening in Dombivali town here and caught one Prakash Darji (36) while accepting Rs 1 lakh as first instalment of the bribe amount on behalf of Wagh, she said.
Based on information provided by Darji, Wagh and Patil were also nabbed, police said.
The accused were subsequently arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
