A policeman played good samaritan counselling a class X boy student to take his board exam after the latter was found wandering near here driven by fear over appearing for the test which began today.

Not only that, Madhavan Nagarajan, the beat officer of Ambagrathur area, pleaded with the chief examiner of the centre and obtained special permission to let the boy take the exam, which had started by the time they reached the venue, a top police official said.

Shortly before the exam was to start at 10 am, Nagarajan noticed the student of the government higher secondary school at Ambagrathur moving around aimlessly on a nearby street.

"The officer understood that the student was under fear to face the exam. He started talking to the student in a friendly manner and helped him overcome the fear," Karaikal District Superintendent of Police Vamseedhar Reddy said in a release.

Madhavan gave him confidence and took him to the school around 10.40 am. But the examination had begun at 10 am with 15-minutes time given for students to go through the question paper.

After the policeman explained the situation and requested the Chief Examiner, the boy was allowed to sit for the Language Paper I.

The SP appreciated the beat officer for his timely intervention which helped save the career of the student.
