A 23-year-old police constable was killed Wednesday when his service rifle went off accidentally in Khejadia village in Madhya Pradesh, an officer said.
The incident occurred when the trigger of constable Ravi Yadav's rifle got pulled when he was handling the firearm, said Sitamau Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Om Prakash Sharma.
The bullet went through the chin of the constable and got lodged in his head, killing him instantaneously, he said.
The deceased was posted on night duty along with another police constable.
Further investigation is underway.
