In the incident which took place in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar area, head constable Dalchand (49) suffered fractures in his both arms and injuries in his head. His condition is out of danger. The Home guard, identified as Sahib Singh (40), was discharged after first aid.
"Both of them were deployed at a police picket last night and were checking vehicles. It all began when Dalchand stopped a motorcycle rider to check his documents as he was driving at a high speed. The rider was drunk and he got into a heated argument with the policeman," said a police official.
The group attacked Dalchand and then Sahib Singh who tried to save him. The assailants then fled from the scene.
Both the victims were taken to a nearby hospital from where Sahib Singh was discharged after first aid while Dalchand is still being treated, police said.
Police registered a case and a manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers, the official added.
Two traffic constables were assaulted by auto drivers in separate incidents in south Delhi's Sarojini Nagar and west Delhi's Madhuban Chowk on Tuesday.
