SSP H N Singh said that a policeman was killed while three policemen and an undertrial prisoner were seriously injured after some assailants started firing on the police van in which they were travelling.
The police van was bringing three undertrial prisoners back to district jail Bulandshar from Muzaffarnagar Court after a hearing, he said.
Security has been beefed up in the district after the incident, the SSP said, adding, police have seized one vehicle standing unclaimed in Shahpur area, suspecting that the assailants would have used it in the crime.
