Head Constable Pokram Chandrawanshi, belonging to the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his the service pistol after firing it randomly in Sambalpur village last night, officials said.
Narrating the sequence of events, an official said, " After completing his duty yesterday, Chandrawanshi, along with six friends and relatives, left in a vehicle for Gurur in Balod district apparently to visit a village quack to get some unknown illness treated."
"A villager Thalesh Sen (24) received bullet injuries. Subsequently, Chandrawanshistormed a house and opened fire at three persons identified as Manoj Thakur (28), his mother Dashoda (60) and his father-in-law Mohan. Following this, he shot himself dead," the official said.
Manoj and Dashoda have been shifted to Raipur as their injuries are critical, he said.
A native of Barsatola village in Chhuriya development block of Rajnandgaon district, Chandrawanshi was deputed as the gunman of former Rajanandgaon Zila Panchayat president Dinesh Gandhi in Dongargaon here, police said.
