Cop shot dead by Maoists

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Dilip Kumar Sinha, posted at Bande police station, was returning to his duty from Bande village on motorcycle last night when some armed naxalites started firing at him following which he collapsed, police told PTI.

By the time police teams rushed to the spot, the naxalites managed to escape.

Later, the victim was rushed to hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.

According to information received by the police, there were three Maoists who fired six to seven rounds at the ASI.

A search has been launched to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile, in another incident a contractor was injured when suspected naxalites shot at him in Pankhajur area.

Contractor Suklal Sarkar was sitting in his office last evening when four persons fired several rounds at him and fled, police said.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in his leg and has been admitted to hospital for treatment.

Police said they suspect the hands of naxals in the attack, and are investigating the matter.
