Cop suspended for laxity in investigation into rape case

A lady sub-inspector was suspended today on charges of laxity in investigation into the allegation of rape charges against a Samajwadi Party MLA and five others by an 18-year-old girl.
SP Kiran S suspended investigation officer Akhtar Jahan on charges of laxity in investigation into the case allegedly involving Sultanpur Sadar MLA Arun Verma and handed over the case to circle officer of Lambhuva Raghvendra Singh, PRO to the SP Satyendra Yadav said.
Allegation of rape was levelled against Verma on September 20 following directives of a court which was moved by the girl claiming that she was kidnapped and gangraped on September 18.
The MLA, however, has denied the allegation terming it as a political conspiracy to malign him.
"On the date I was in Lucknow to attend proceeding of the Assembly... This can be verified from the Assembly records and CCTV footages," Verma said.
