Copper futures were up 0.16% at Rs 319.25 per kg today as speculators enlarged bets, largely in step with a firming trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME).

At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February next year rose 50 paise, or 0.16%, at Rs 319.25 per kg, in a turnover of 4,681 lots.

Metal for delivery in far-month April also rose five paise, or 0.02% to trade at Rs 3323.45 per kg, with trade volume of five lots.

Analysts said gains in copper and other metals overseas after signs of growth stabilization in China, the world's biggest refined metal producer and consumer, and a series of announcements on production cutbacks in recent weeks and rising demand at the domestic spot markets influenced metal prices at futures trade here.
