Copper falls by 0.1% on trade profit-booking

Speculators booked profits even as metal strengthened overseas

Copper prices fell 0.12% to Rs 408.60 per kg in futures trade today after speculators booked profits even as metal strengthened overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February 2015 contracts fell by 50 paise, or 0.12%, to Rs 408.60 per kg in a business turnover of 607 lots.

In a similar fashion, the metal for delivery in far-month April next year eased by 20 paise, or 0.05%, to Rs 412.75 per kg in two lots.

Market analysts said the fall in copper prices at futures trade was due to offloading of positions by speculators to book profits but metal's gain in Asian trade, limited the losses.

Meanwhile, in Shanghai the copper for March delivery advanced 0.8% to 45,880 yuan ($7,369) per tonne, while at the London Metal Exchange it was little changed at $6,408 per tonne.
