Copra surges on firm demand

Copra surged at the spice market here today following firm demand from stockists and retailers amid good export offtake.
Meanwhile, pepper and ginger prices ruled steady in the absence of any large scale buying.
Copra office Alapuzha climbed by Rs 400 per quintal to Rs 8,500 from Monday's closing level of Rs 8,100.
Copra office Kozhikode, copra Rajapur and copra edible Mumbai rose by Rs 200 per quintal each to Rs 8,200, Rs 17,200 and Rs 10,000 as against Rs 8,000, Rs 17,000 and Rs 9,800 previously.
Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):
Black pepper (per kg) 660/740 (660/740), ginger bleached (per kg) 250 (250), ginger unbleached (per kg) 270 (270), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 8,500 (8,100), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 8,200 (8,000), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,200 (closed), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 10,000 (9,800).
