Copra surges on sustained demand

Copra prices surged at the spices market here today owing to sustained demand from stockists and retailers.
All other spices ruled steady in absence of necessary buying support.
Copra Rajapur Mumbai and copra edible prices shot-up by Rs 500 per quintal each to Rs 17,500 and Rs 14,500 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 17,000 and Rs 14,000, respectively.
Copra office Alappuzha rose by Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 13,000 from Rs 12,700.
Copra office Kozhikode gained by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 12,800 as compared to Rs 12,600 previously.
Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):
Black pepper (per kg) 410/490 (410/490), ginger unbleached (per kg) 130 (130), copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 13,000 (12,700), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 12,800 (12,600), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,500 (17,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 14,500 (14,000).
