The assailants were still at large while Head Constable Dharamveer (42) suffered injuries in his head after being assaulted with a rod. He was taken to GTB Hospital where he received several stitches. The home guard was given first-aid, after which both of them were discharged.
The incident took place around 12:20 AM when Dharamveer stopped a Swift Dzire car at a picket following which an argument took place between him and the four occupants of the car who took offence for being stopped.
A case in connection with the incident under the Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) has been registered at the Seelampur police station and a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants, police said.
