Cops booked for demanding Rs 2 lakh bribe from scrap dealer

Two cops including a police officer who allegedly made a demand for a Rs 2 lakh bribe from a scrap dealer were booked by the Navi Mumbai unit of the Thane Region Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), sources said here today.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Thane) Shrinivas Ghadge told PTI that offences under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 have been registered against the cops at the Turbhe MIDC police station.
He said that assistant police inspector Ashok Falle and police 'naik' Yuvraj Patil allegedly demanded the bribe on August 13 from the complainant who is a scrap dealer, for not not filing a false case against him and not arresting him based on such a case.
Immediately after the policemen allegedly demanded the bribe, the aggrieved complainant lodged a complaint at the Navi Mumbai unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and further investigations were carried out, he said.
Today the offence of demanding a bribe was registered against the two cops further investigations are on by local ACB officials, the ACB officer said.
