Independent MLA Vijay Sardesai today alleged that Goa's Anti-Narcotics Cell has become "dormant" as it has failed to check the spread of a new drug which is in vogue in the coastal belt.
"A new drug called Nitro was introduced in the coastal belt in December," Sardesai said on the floor of the House while supporting amendments, which were moved on Tuesday, to state Governor B V Wanchoo's speech on March 3.
The anti-narcotics cell has failed to control the drug menace in the coastal belt, Sardesai said while contesting the claims made by the Governor in his speech on the sound law and order situation in the state.
"One of the clubs, which operates in a place meant for farm house, has been left untouched although government had promised on the floor of the House that the club would be closed," Sardesai said.
He said instances in recent past like Nigerian nationals taking on the state's police machinery and fight between taxi operators are indicative of deteriorating law and order in the state.
