A 46-year-old woman, who was trying to jump off the balcony of her eighth floor flat in Andheri in the metropolis was rescued by police and fire brigade personnel, an official said on Sunday.
The woman had locked herself in the house, situated in Sai Krupa Society in Gundavali area, along with her 18-year- old son on Saturday and was threatening suicide.
"When the teen tried to unlock the door, she threatened to jump off the balcony of the 8th floor flat. Neighbours gathered hearing the commotion. The son alerted relatives who then informed the police," he said.
A team from Andheri police station reached there and started talking to the women to persuade her against the move as well as to distract her while they mounted a rescue effort, he said.
"While the police engaged her in talks, a fire brigade personnel broke open the door, allowing our staff to rush in and pin her down," the official said.
The official said the woman is mentally unstable and has been undergoing treatment, adding that she was taken to a nearby hospital after being rescued.
