Police today resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse residents protesting against a road accident in which three school children were injured on Karkunj Road in Awas Vikas Colony here.
The accident occurred when a man was taking his three children -- Priyanshu (12), Tisha (10) and Christiana (5) -- to school on his scooter.
The man said after he crossed the Karkunj Crossing the scooter slipped because of large trenches on the road.
As they fell on the road, a brick-laden lorry ran over the three children, injuring them.
The three children were rushed to hospital by passersby, where one leg of Priyanshu had to be amputated, a doctor said.
Angry locals set the lorry on fire and blocked the road, alleging that the vehicle had entered the no-entry zone.
