Cops warned of severe action for violation of poll code

Andhra Pradesh Police today warned its officials of severe action if they were found to have indulged in violation of election code which is in force in view of the ongoing panchayat polls in the state.
"It is noticed that certain police officers are violating model code of conduct at field level (during the ongoing polls). The State Election Commission has also taken a serious view of this," Additional Director General (Law and Order) V S K Kaumudi said.
Hence, all the officers in the field are warned that those who violate the model code of conduct will not only be removed from their area of working, but severe action will be intiated against them apart from debarring them from occupying field posts in future, the senior police officer said in a release.
The three-phased panchayat elections began on July 23 in the state and will continue on July 27 and 31.
