"A COBRA battalion jawan, Santosh Kumar Singh, died after being airlifted to Ranchi. He suffered wounds in the upper chest during the encounter with Maoists," DIG (Kolhan) Arun Kumar Singh told PTI.
The encounter, which began at 9 am during the routine long-range patrolling in Maoist-hit areas of the district, came to an end around 4.30 pm.
Singh said the injured jawan was airlifted to Ranchi for treatment.
The security personnel, who were on routine long-range patrolling in the naxal-affected areas in Tebo police station of the district, retaliated when the rebels opened fire on seeing them approaching.
