The South Eastern Railway (SER) and the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday decided to temporarily increase the price of platform tickets to discourage overcrowding at major stations as a measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, officials said.
SER spokesperson Sanjay Ghosh said the new rates of the platform tickets will be between Rs 20 and Rs 50 as per the gradations of the stations.
A platform ticket costs Rs 10.
The new tariffs will be implemented from Thursday, he said.
While platform tickets will cost Rs 50 at Howrah station (new complex), they will be priced at Rs 40 in Kharagpur and Tatanagar stations, Ghosh said.
A platform ticket will cost Rs 30 in Santragachi, Shalimar, Mecheda, Ranchi, Hatia, Balasore, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Bokaro Steel City stations, he said.

It will be priced at Rs 20 in Panskura, Bagnan, Midnapur, Jhargram, Chakradharpur, Adra, Bankura, Bishnupur, Purulia and Digha, Jaleswar and Ghatsila stations, Ghosh said.
In 10 major stations under the jurisdiction of the ECoR, platform tickets will cost Rs 50, an official said.
The ECoR stations where the platform tickets will cost Rs 50 are Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam Road, Rayagada, and Sambalpur, he said.
