A meeting to decide the wages rejected their demand to fix pay at Rs 255 a day, instead of Rs 175 now, following which the workers went on stir and decided to intensify their agitation.
Some workers squatted on the premises of corporation, and raised slogans as the Mayor, Commissioner and other seniors officials were not present in the meeting,police said.
A section of workers also suggested staging a dharna in front of the house of local minister, S P Velumani, along with their family members, seeking to settle the issue without any delay, they said.
