Cotton output estimated at 395 lakh bales for 2013-14: CAI

Cotton crop is estimated at 395 lakh bales (170 kg each) in the onging season mainly due to rise in yield, the Cotton Association of India said today.
The association released its June estimate of the cotton crop for the season 2013-14 that started in October 2013.
"For the 2013-14 season, cotton production is placed at 395 lakh bales due to higher yield," CAI said in a release issued here.
The total crop cotton output for 2012-13 season stood at 356.75 lakh bales.
Production is estimated to have significantly gone up in Gujarat to 125 lakh bales in 2013-14 season, from 86.50 lakh bales in the previous year.
In Maharashtra also, output is expected to rise to 85 lakh bales in 2013-14, from 78.25 lakh bales last year.
For the year 2013-14, the total cotton supply is estimated at 453.25 lakh bales, while the domestic consumption is estimated at 295 lakh bales, thus, leaving an available surplus of 158.25 lakh bales, the projected balance sheet drawn by the CAI said.
The arrivals, which up to June 30, 2014, is placed at 382.30 lakh bales, continue well in to the off season.
