Delhi police today seized counterfeit herbal products worth Rs 1 crore being produced and sold in the name of a company owned by former international cricketer Manoj Prabhakar.
"On a complaint filed by Prabhakar on Friday, we raided a factory cum godown in Bawana industrial area in Outer Delhi this morning and seized several truck loads of counterfeit herbal products such as shampoo, herbal bleach, hair oil, moisturizers etc. The seized products are worth Rs 1 crore," said a senior police officer.
"The factory was run by one Rajeev Narang alias Lucky, a resident of Geeta Colony. He was marketing these products in a name similar to Pabhakar's firm Naturence Pvt Ltd. Efforts are on to nab Narang," the officer said.
"I was suffering losses to the tune of Rs seven to Rs 10 lakh every month due to these counterfeit products being sold on a similar name like my company. I had floated my company in 2006 whose products are not only sold in India but exported to foreign countries as well," Prabhakar told PTI over phone.
Police said efforts are on to nab Narang and his other associates.
"We are still counting the products seized by us. The counterfeit products were produced and packed in the same premises under a name similar to Prabhakar's company. The prices were 20 to 30 per cent lower than the original products," they said.
