"Today the revolution in IT and healthcare industry have made India a global destination. In the field of science and technology we have achieved an honourable place. Successful maiden mission to Mars is a jewel in our nation's crown. This has won us a global recognition of being the first country in the world to succeed in its first attempt to Mars," he said in a speech, which was broadcast by the state-run All India Radio and Doordarshan.
Observing that Tamil Nadu was a front ranking state, he said its 'Fast Track Approach' plan, implemented at a cost of Rs 96.94 crore to speedily achieve sufficiency in foodgrain production, and its initiatives to promote micro irrigation, deserved a special mention.
Providing 100 per cent subsidy to marginal and small farmers and 75 per cent to other farmers for installing micro-irrigation set up by the state government is laudable, he said.
