The 54-year-old country music singer was admitted to a hospital in Dallas due to complications related to "recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy", read the statement by his spokesperson Kirt Webster, reported TMZ Online.
"Travis underwent the placement of an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals," Webster said.
The device has been described as "an implantable mechanical pump that helps pump blood from the lower chambers of your heart to the rest of your body".
The Grammy-award winning singer was scheduled to perform in Deadwood, South Dakota on Wednesday and reportedly started feeling till on Saturday.
