Mahesh Baria and his wife Vina Baria were arrested on February 2 for allegedly killing sarpanch of Jotvad village Mahendra Dhana Baria as Mahesh suspected his wife of having an illicit affair with the sarpanch, sub-inspector at Jambughoda police station, M B Vachhani said.
The couple was produced before the local court today which remanded them to two days police custody.
On February 1, when Mahesh returned home, he saw Mahendra in the house with his wife and in fit of a rage hit a thick wooden piece (used to wash clothes) on Mahendra's head, following which he tried to run from the house, the SI said, adding, the deceased was later chased by Mahesh and his wife.
After receiving the information from locals, police reached the spot and arrested the couple the next day.
Police have also recovered the wooden stick and cloth used to carry the body from the site.
