According to police, who have not registered an FIR in the matter and are investigating it under Section 176 of CrPC, Amit and Shivani met through a matrimonial website and got married in November of last year, but differences cropped up between them soon after they returned from honeymoon.
Shivani has told police in her statement that an argument between herself and Amit broke out after he returned home from a party on Saturday night. Amit then attacked her with a blunt object. Shivani, who works in a private company in Gurgaon, suffered severe head injuries.
"Although we have not concluded our investigation, there seems to be no foul play involved. We are waiting for the final autopsy report of Amit," he added.
After injuring Shivani and locking her in the room, Amit locked her mother's bedroom as well and then hanged himself from the ceiling fan using a TV cable, police said while sharing the details of the incident at Platinum Heights apartments in Sector 18-B of Dwarka.
The incident at the high-end apartment in Dwarka in the wee hours of Sunday was the second such case in two days where strained relations between a married couple led to a gory end.
On Friday, a 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death with a scissor and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area.
