The Calcutta High Court today directed the land manager of Kolkata Port Trust to inspect and measure a portion of its prime land in dispute, which is at present in possession of Venkatesh Films, in south-western part of the city.
Justice Dipankar Dutta directed that an officer of Kolkata Police would assist the land manager in his job tomorrow.
The KoPT officer was directed to submit the details before the court on Thursday when the application by the port authorities to be given back possession of the piece of land would be taken up.
KoPT officials had on September 14 taken back possession of the land on the basis of a court order, only to be dispossessed within hours allegedly by some toughies.
It then moved the high court seeking direction to the police to assist it to get back the land.
One LMJ Construction Private Ltd claimed that it had taken the land on rent from Avery India Limited to which KoPT had leased out the land several decades back.
LMJ had then sub-let a portion of the land to Venkatesh Films.
Venkatesh Films, which is at present in possession of a portion of the land, submitted that it was ready to give back possession of the constructed portion of land and the rest within another three months to whoever the court directed.
