An Alipurduar court today restrained Mukul Roy, who recently joined the BJP, from making any statement linking TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation Ltd and Jago Bangla Media Pvt Ltd.
'Biswa Bangla' is a brand used by the West Bengal government and 'Jago Bangla' is the newspaper of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Civil Judge (senior division) Indranil Chatterjee passed an interim injunction restraining Roy from making any statement linking Abhishek Banerjee to Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation Ltd and Jago Bangla Media Pvt Ltd till December 14 after his lawyer moved a defamation suit before the court ex- parte.
Roy had in a public rally on November 10 levelled allegations against Banerjee with regard to Biswa Bangla and Jago Bangla.
Banerjee, the Trinamool Youth Congress president, had on November 13 sent a legal notice to Roy, claiming that the veteran politician had made "false" statements against him and demanded an apology from him within 48 hours.
Dissatisfied with the reply from Roy, Banerjee filed a defamation suit and a prayer for injunction before the court of civil judge (senior division) in Alipurduar in north Bengal today.
