A court today cautioned the Birbhum police not to take 'lightly' the alleged use of provocative language by district Trinamool Congress President, Anubrata Mondal, at a panchayat election rally on July 17.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Suri, Rajesh Chakravarty noted that the extract of the general diary was not submitted along with the application by the police and that it should not take the matter 'lightly'.
The caution followed submission of an application by the investigating officer seeking permission to start investigation into the allegations that Mondal passed malicious comments and expressed hatred against opposition candidates at a public meeting at Kasba village in the district during the panchayat election campaign.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Kuntal Chatterjee said "The extract of the general diary was not submitted along with the application.
"That is why the learned court did not allow permission today. The court observed that the matter should not be taken lightly by the police. The court ordered submission of the extract as early as possible," Chatterjee said.
The court, however, allowed the police to start investigation against TMC MLA Manirul Islam, who too made threatening comments at a meeting at Saithia on July 20.
