A Delhi court today framed rape and molestation charges against a youth and his cousin and put them on trial for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl after befriending her on a social networking site.
Additional Sessions Judge Gulshan Kumar put on trial the two youths and fixed the case for recording of prosecution evidence on July 26.
The court framed charges of rape and molestation against Naveen Singh Khetwal (24) and his cousin Rajesh Singh (24), both MNC employees and residents of Sarojini Nagar in South Delhi, who were arrested after a complaint against them was registered on December 31, 2012.
"That on October 12, 2012 and before that on different occasions within the jurisdiction of police station Safdarjung Enclave, both of you committed rape upon the prosecutrix (minor) on different occasions besides outraging her modesty by abusing her in furtherance of common intention and thereby committed an offence punishable under sections 376 (rape), 509 (making gestures with an intent to insult a woman), 34 (common intention) of the IPC within my cognizance.
"And, I hereby direct that both the accused be tried for the above offence," the judge said.
The police in its charge sheet alleged the girl was lured into a relationship by the two cousins who initially developed physical relations with her and then mentally tortured her by sharing her number with their friends and labelling her as a "prostitute".
"The girl had said in the FIR that the incident pushed her into depression and she attempted suicide twice," the charge sheet had quoted the girl's complaint to the police.
"The victim, a Class XII student, had met Naveen through Facebook in September 2011. Naveen had introduced her to his cousin Rajesh," the charge sheet had said.
