A court here today granted bail to a man who threw a shoe at a judge yesterday soon after he acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar of all charges in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Muneesh Garg granted bail to 43-year-old Karnail Singh who had hurled a shoe at District Judge J R Aryan who pronounced the verdict in the riots case.
The court granted bail to All India Sikhs Students Federation President Karnail Singh Peer Mohammed on furnishing of a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and two sureties of like amount and also asked him not to leave the country as part of the bail conditions.
Earlier in the day, the court had sent him to judicial custody till May 15, subsequent to which he had moved the plea seeking bail.
The prosecution opposed his bail plea saying his act was meant to "hamper court proceedings" and show "disrespect" to a senior judicial officer.
