A man has been held guilty of murdering his wife with a kitchen knife by a Delhi court even though the motive behind the offence could not be established.
Additional Sessions Judge Gautam Manan convicted Bihar resident Pramod Kumar Jaiswal as victim Geeta was last seen with her husband in her rented accommodation.
"The circumstances proved in the case are leading to the only hypothesis that accused (Jaiswal) has committed the offence. Therefore, the court cannot acquit him of the offence merely because the motive for committing the offence has not been established," the court said.
The court said the room, where Geeta was found murdered, was locked after the incident. Its key was found from the possession of Jaiswal and he was unable to explain the circumstances leading to the death of his wife.
The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence in the case later in the week.
According to the prosecution, Geeta was found murdered in May 2011 in the house in Sector 8 of Dwarka, which the couple had taken on rent 15 days before the incident.

Geeta, who was the first wife of Jaiswal, was murdered by him with a kitchen knife on the intervening night of May 10-11, 2011 and he fled after locking the door of the house, it said.
Neighbours had told the police that they saw Jaiswal and Geeta on the night of May 10 in their house and the next morning, the house was locked. When foul smell started emanating from the house, neighbours broke open the lock and found that the victim was murdered.
Absence of Jaiswal raised suspicion and he was arrested by the police from Dwarka and was brought to Delhi.
Police had also recovered the knife used in the offence from a nearby park in Dwarka.
During the trial, Jaiswal claimed innocence and said that it was a false and fabricated case.
