A local court today issued a warrant against Uttar Pradesh minister Vinod Kumar alias Pandit Singh after he repeatedly failed to appear as a witness in connection with a criminal case.
Issueing the bailable warrant, Additional Sessions Judge Surendra Pratap Yadav directed the state Director General of Police to ensure that the warrant is served on the minister for his appearance in the court on September 18.
Court observed that the police, despite knowing his whereabouts, had not been serving the summons issued to the minister in the past.
The minister of state for secondary education is a witness in the 1993 case of attempt to life, whereas sitting Samajwadi Party MP Brij Bhaushan Saran Singh is an accused in the case.
