One of the 12 petitions was filed by Surinder Singh of Panthak Sewa Dal, who has lost the elections.
Additional District Judge Kamini Lau issued summons to the parties on the suit for March 20 and directed the Directorate of Gurudwara Elections to take necessary steps to preserve the record relating to election of the ward, under challenge, and produce it before the court as and when so directed.
The petitions, filed through advocates Inder Chand and Siddharth Narwal, said the winning candidate Balbir Singh belongs to Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) "which is a religious party but has not been registered under the Societies Registration Act".
During the hearing, the advocates argued that Directorate of Gurudwara Elections improperly allocated the reserved symbols to the candidates sponsored by the parties not registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860.
