Following an appeal by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Arnab Roychoudhury remanded Bhagirath to nine days' police custody.
The CJM court had on Thursday remanded Bhagirath to 14 days' judicial custody after he surrended but the SIT yesterday moved the court urging that he be brought to their custody for the sake of investigation.
The prosecution said Bhagirath was among the other accused named by deceased Sagar Ghosh as having commited the crime at Parui in July 2013 at Sagar's residence.
Five others are already in judicial custody in connection with the murder case.
