Court orders police to produce witness with proper security

A local court hearing a sedition case against 11 members of banned SIMI today directed police to provide proper security to a witness inside the court during his next appearance after he was allegedly threatened by an accused.
Prosecutor Vimal Kumar Mishra said additional sessions judge B K Paloda directed the police that witness Atul Pathak be given necessary security when he appears in the court on October 21.
Last time, Pathak, a prosecution witness, had complained that after his deposition was over, Ahmed Baig, one of the accused, gestured at him to say "you would be cut down".
Meanwhile, B S Parihar, the then in-charge of Pithampur police station in Dhar district, today appeared in the court as a prosecution witness.

Parihar stated that on the intervening night of March 26- 27, 2008, activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India were arrested from Indore, and seven 7.65 mm pistols, 37 live cartridges and other incriminating things were seized from seven of them.
Safdar Nagori and 10 others, alleged members of SIMI, are on trial for sedition and waging a war against the country. According to the police, they were planning terror attacks when they were arrested in 2008.
