The Special Court for Economic Offences yesterday issued the warrant against Parthasarathy directing authorities to produce him before it on July 25 on a complaint filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

ED had complained about the Minister's non-cooperation with the probe pertaining to a business transaction involving a Hyderabad-based firm, KPR Tele Products Ltd, of which he was the Managing Director.

The agency had registered a case against Parthasarathy in 1999 for alleged violation of FERA over import of some equipment from abroad by the firm. ED imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on him in 2001, but the amount had not been paid.

In a petition filed through his counsel, Parthasarathy clarified that in view of prior meetings in Krishna district he was unable to appear before the court yesterday.

The Congress leader said he had no intentions to evade court and appealed for recall of the NBW, which was accepted.

Earlier, alleging that the Minister did not cooperate with it during the probe and also failed to respond to the notices issued against him over the pending penalty, the ED had filed a complaint before the court.
