Metropolitan Magistrate Ekta Gauba rejected bail to Irfan, who was arrested in connection with the July 21 late night clashes, attack on police party and arson of vehicles at Subhash Park site where local residents led by MLA Shoiab Iqbal have claimed to have dug up remains of an Akbarabadi mosque.
"Allegations against the accused are of serious nature. Hence, I find no merit in the present application for grant of bail," the court said.
Irfan was arrested along with Nadeem for his alleged involvement in late night clashes at the Subhash park site where police and MCD personnel had been stoned by a mob and two DTC low-floor buses torched. Police vehicles were also set on fire.
The duo have been charged with a string of sections under the Indian Penal Code including that for arson, rioting and obstructing the public servant from doing their duty, besides the provisions of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. (more)
