The court also asked him not to harass his wife who had filed a petition under the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act and sought maintenance saying she was being tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry.
"The complainant (wife) has been granted maintenance of Rs 4,000 per month from the date of filing of petition. This amount shall include the maintenance for herself as well as for her minor daughter. She has been granted Rs 1,000 as rent for alternative and suitable accommodation.
"Further, the respondent (husband) is restrained from committing any further act of domestic violence upon the complainant and to communicate with her and visit the place of her parental house," Metropolitan Magistrate Rachna T Lakhanpal said.
The court also noted that the wife was treated badly by her husband who also harassed her.
"Complainant (wife) has alleged that respondent harassed her mentally and physically. She has filed various complaints before the police and the Crime Against Women Cell. Upon the basis of controverted and unrebutted testimony, she has proved that respondent has treated her badly and commits domestic violence upon her," it said.
It also noted that despite the summons being served to the husband, he did not appear before it and was thus proceeded as ex-parte in the case. (More)
