Court sentences seven people to 7-year imprisonment

A court in Balasore district today sentenced seven persons to seven years imprisonment in a rape case.
Additional sub-divisional judge of Nilagiri, Pragya Paramita Raula examined 18 witnesses and awarded 7-year imprisonment to the convicts, besides imposing penalty of Rs 5000 on each of them.
According to the prosecution, a divorced woman was raped by Dinabandhu Hemram and two others in Kendua village under Barhampur Police Station in Balasore district. Four women were alleged to have assisted the accused.
The incident occurred on June 9, 2011 when the victim had gone to attend a wedding in the village. The accused allegedly dragged the woman to a nearby place and raped her.
