Court summons two witnesses in Dipda Darwaja riot case

Public prosecutor Mukesh Bhrambhatt today moved an application in the court of designated judge S C Srivastava, seeking cross examination of Samim and Sabnoor Banoo, who were eye-witnesses to the riot.

Both were minors at the time, and were injured in the incident. Now, having turned major, they can depose, Bhrambhatt told the court.

The court accepted the application and called the two witness for deposition on May 25, Bhrambhatt told PTI.

Eleven people were killed in violence at Dipda Darwaja area of Visnagar taluka on March 1, 2002, following the Godhra train burning.

Former BJP MLA from Visnagar, Prahlad Gosa, and ex-taluka panchayat member D T Patel are the prime accused, charged with instigating the mob. A total of 85 persons are on trial in the case.
