Cow 'smuggler' killed in shootout with police

A suspected cattle smuggler was killed while three others were arrested following a shootout with the police here today.
A police team spotted a vehicle carrying cattle near Narnaul area around 1:15 am following which it and another team chased the vehicle, police said.
"During the chase, the suspects started pelting stones, empty beer bottles and fired at the police. Police also fired back at the suspects in retaliation near Mori village. Thereafter, they left the vehicle and fled away," said Mahendergarh SP Hamid Akhtar.
"When police checked their vehicle, they found the body of a suspected cow smuggler who was identified as Kala and also recovered two country-made pistols," he added.
Police also recovered one cow and one bull which were sent to a nearby cow shed.
"Later in the evening, three suspects, identified as Faruq, Nishar and Raees were arrested with the help of local villagers. However, two suspects are still on the run," said Akhtar.

"Cattle were being taken to Mewat," he added.
Four policemen received injuries in the incident as the suspects tried to ram into police vehicle during the chase.
"A case under relevant sections have been filed against the accused and hunt for the missing suspects is on," police said.
