The government had failed to provide remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce, CPI national secretary Atul Kumar Anjan alleged.
"The farm sector has been facing a severe crisis, their plight worsened since the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre," he told reporters here.
He accused the Centre of waiving dues to the tune of lakhs of crores of big companies instead of doing so for the farmers.
The senior leader said demands for implementation of the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission, Rs 10,000 pension for every farmer, formation of a farmers' welfare board and several other requests had gone unheeded.
Hitting out at the BJP-led government over black money, Anjan said no action was initiated against people whose names figured in Panama papers for stashing unaccounted wealth abroad.
The hard-earned money of common people given to the businessmen as loans were being waived by the government, the CPI leader claimed.
Referring to the Manibhadra project, Anjan said the plan to link Mahanadi and Godavari rivers in Boudh district would lead to the displacement of thousands of people in the region.
"It would also destroy vast fertile land and huge forest resources in the area," Anjan said, urging the farmers to oppose the move.
He said the Krushak Sabha would hold an agitation in Delhi from November 1 to 5 to highlight various problems faced by the farming community.
