Though the water logging and flood like situation was quite natural during the monsoon season in the state, this type of unprecedented situation was the result of not taking precautionary measures by the incumbent government despite the forecast by the meteogical department of heavy rains, CPI secretary, R Mutharasan told reporters here.
Besides non-utilisation of funds for desilting, the officials during Dravidian party rules allowed real estate developers to encroach agricultural land, thus chocking canal ways meant for water flow, Mutharasan alleged.
Mutharasan demanded that Rs 25,000 per acre should be paid to the farmers, who lost their standing crop, to rehabilitate them.
He also wanted the political parties to not to use the flood situation, as part of vote catching and election campaign.
